SYMPOSIUM FED BY ARDAHAN’S RICHES

The 2nd International Ardahan Anatolian Ceramics Symposium was held in Ardahan’s natural open-air venues between October 22-25, 2024. This symposium, which aims to develop ceramic art in our country, also drew attention to the cultural values ​​of the region.

The 2nd International Ardahan Anatolian Ceramics Symposium was held on the university campus and in natural open-air venues of Ardahan, hosted by Ardahan University between October 22-25, 2024.



The Honorary President of the event was Ardahan University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Biber; the Chairman of the Organizing Committee was Assoc. Prof. Filiz Ozturk, a faculty member of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the Vice President was Lecturer Esra Çora. Artists, academics, and many local and foreign guests interested in ceramic art attended the symposium.


Artists and academics from Tunisia, Egypt, Iran, Azerbaijan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and South Korea participated in the symposium with their works and presentations. Simultaneously with the opening of the symposium, many exhibitions were presented to art lovers: Four separate exhibitions were opened, including the “Bird Figure in Cultural Layers” group ceramic exhibition with international participation, “The Effect of Digital Building Facade Appearances on Urban Culture”, “Ornamental Design in Contemporary Architectural Facades” and “KTB Bursa Restoration and Conservation Regional Laboratory Directorate-Restoration and Conservation Studies Exhibition”.



In addition to the papers presented throughout the symposium, invited artists and academicians performed applications related to ceramic art: “Traditional Paste Lusteri, a Gift of Eastern Mediterranean Ceramists to Ceramic Art” by Prof. Sevim Cizer, “A Journey to the World of Glaze” by Prof. Dr. Zeliha Mete, “Alternative Mold Methods in Ceramic Art” by Prof. Burcu Oztürk Karabey, “The Adventure of Ceramic Glazes” by Prof. Dr. Zeliha Mete, Assoc. Prof. Atilla Cengiz Kilic, Assoc. Prof. Filiz Ozturk, “Raku in Cildir Lake” and “Raw Overglaze Luster Applications” by Assoc. Prof. Atilla Cengiz Kilic, “Seal Technique and Contemporary Applications in Ceramic Art” by Assoc. Prof. M. Candan Gungor, “Black Works” by Serdar Pala and Assoc. Prof. Irem Calicisi Pala, Assoc. “Reduction Firing Underglaze Luster ‘Blusrem Application’” by Prof. Irem Calicisi Pala, “Primitive Ceramic Firing in Open Area” by Assoc. Prof. Irem Calicisi Pala, Serdar Pala, “Sagar Firing” by Lecturer Aysegul Acar, “Sgraffito Applications” by Lokman Gencturk were held with the participation of students and art lovers.


During the symposium, events were held to promote the cultural values ​​of the region; local music concerts and Caucasian folk dance shows were presented.



On the last day, the symposium was closed with the “Activities Exhibition” consisting of applications produced in the workshops and the “Tradition of Breaking the Jug” show.


We would like to express our endless gratitude to Ardahan University Rectorate and Fine Arts Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Bulent Kurtisoglu, and to Fine Arts Faculty academic staff Assoc. Prof. Filiz Ozturk and Lecturer Esra Çora, who hosted the participants with great dedication and hospitality throughout the symposium which has made a great contribution to the further development and popularization of ceramic art in our country, and we wish this beautiful event to continue for many years.
