MUAMMER CAKI’S MEMORY IS BEING KEPT ALIVE WITH CERAMIC COMPETITION

The 12th “International Muammer Caki Student Ceramic Competition”, which is organized to keep alive the memory of Anadolu University Fine Arts Faculty Ceramics Department faculty member and artist Muammer Caki, who passed away in 2000, to pass on his artistic legacy to future generations and to encourage young artist candidates to ceramic art, was held.

The “International Muammer Caki Student Ceramics Competition”, organized for the 12th time this year, aims to keep alive the memory of Anadolu University Fine Arts Faculty Ceramics Department faculty member and artist Muammer Caki, who passed away in 2000, to pass on his artistic legacy to future generations and to encourage young artist candidates to pursue ceramic art. In addition to its significant contributions to art and art education, Anadolu University provides art education students with the opportunity to express themselves, gain experience in artistic production processes and contribute to the contemporary development of ceramic art through this competition. The jury of the competition organized for this purpose convened on December 16 and submitted a total of 303 works, 209 in the Free category, 22 in the Wheel category, 16 in the Industrial category, 32 in the Tile category and 24 in the Glass category. As a result of the jury’s preliminary evaluation, 135 works were evaluated for the second evaluation. This year, five achievement awards and 11 awards were given by institutions and individuals in the categories of Free, Wheel, Industrial, Tile and Glass.



A total of 25 universities participated from within Turkiye: Akdeniz University, Anadolu University, Bilecik Seyh Edebali University, Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University, Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Cankiri Karatekin University, Cukurova University, Dokuz Eylul University, Hacettepe University, Inonu University, Kastamonu University, Kocaeli University, Kutahya Dumlupinar University, Marmara University, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Mugla Sıtki Kocman University, Necmettin Erbakan University, Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University, Ondokuz Mayis University, Sakarya University, Selcuk University, Usak University, and from abroad: Jingdezhen Ceramics University, Latvia Art Academy, Kaunas College.


As a result of the evaluations carried out with the participation of Anadolu University Faculty of Fine Arts Dean Prof. Rahmi Atalay, Ceramics Department Head Prof. Duygu Kahraman, Glass Department Head Prof. Mustafa Agatekin, Ceramics Department faculty member Prof. Ezgi Hakan, Mugla Sitki Kocman University Faculty of Fine Arts Dean Prof. Burcu Ozturk Karabey, Kyrgyzstan Art Academy Ceramics Department faculty member Prof. Nagima Alamanova, Mimar Sinan University Ceramics Department faculty member Prof. Hasan Baskirkan, Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Fine Arts Ceramics and Glass Design Department faculty member Assoc. Prof. M. Candan Gungor, Wroclaw Fine Arts Academy Glass Department faculty member Prof. Kazimier Pawlak, Canakkale Seramik URGE Design Manager Tolga Berkay, Ceramic Artists Tuba Onder Demirciogu, Cahide Erel and Babek Sobhi, the students' works were deemed worthy of awards in different categories.

  • Ayse Nazikar Karahan from Marmara University– Kutahya Porselen Achievement Award and Hobi Seramik gift certificate in the Tile Category

  • Ismail Emre Akdag from Selcuk University – Refsan Endüstriyel Firin ve Makine Sanayi Ticaret A.S. Achievement Award and Hobi Seramik gift certificate in the Wheel Category

  • Ali Eren Sacildi from Anadolu University – Bonlife Art Special Award

  • Yaren Kurt from Anadolu University – Mehmet Erdogan Agatekin Special Award

The Muammer Caki International Student Ceramic Competition, organized by Anadolu University with great devotion and effort for the 12th time, continues to be an important platform that provides young artist candidates with the opportunity to express themselves, think creatively and develop their technical skills while contributing to the development of ceramic art. Students have the opportunity to gain a critical perspective in their artistic production processes thanks to their works evaluated by ceramic artists, academics and sector representatives at national and international levels. The motivation provided by the competition is of great importance in terms of the sustainability of ceramic art by contributing to the professional development of students. Such events, which strengthen Turkiye's position in the field of ceramic art, encourage industry and academic cooperation; and will continue to make valuable contributions to our country's ceramic art, cultural heritage and visibility in international media.
