Social and cultural contexts of buildings
The versatile “Architecture of Modern Turkiye With Illustrations” project, which aims to reach a wider audience who are not directly related to architecture, was implemented under the coordination of VitrA Architect Relations Team and Arkitera Architecture Center. The Advisory Board of the project celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Republic consists of Dr. Saitali Koknar, Master Architect Ertug Ucar and Dr. Funda Uz. Onur Kutluoglu, Bahadir Yazici and Kayahan Kaya worked as illustrators on the project, and Cem Dedekarginoglu and Umut Sumnu worked as writers. Animations were prepared by Kayahan Kaya and Ahmet Aslan, and music was prepared by Azevzir.
The graphic novel format used in the “Architecture of Modern Turkiye With Illustrations” series does not only address the technical aspects of the buildings. It also highlights social and cultural contexts with a story-based narrative. Thus, it makes the architectural heritage more accessible and understandable. With the series, which creates a new communication language about architecture, the buildings that have an important place in the history of architecture and the turning points in the professional lives of architects are told. This contributes to the discussion of the profession in wider circles. All books of the series can be accessed from online platforms and distinguished bookstores.
