  • The ceramic kiln of Ilgi Adalan, one of the most important names in contemporary Turkish ceramic art, which has been a silent witness to his production for approximately 50 years, is now in the Ceramics Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. The kiln, which returned to the Academy from which Adalan graduated in 1959, took its place alongside the kilns of Füreya Koral and Sadi Diren.

Ilgi Adalan, one of the artists who produces the most ceramic panels in Türkiye within the scope of architecture and art collaboration, moved because his house in Erenköy was included in the urban transformation project. The ceramic kiln he brought to Türkiye in the 1970s, a silent witness to his production, was a history in itself.

Having digitized and cataloged Ilgi Adalan's archive, Şehrin Panoları (City's Panels), an online archive project of urban memory founded by Mustafa Ergül and Nurtaç Buluç, has now set out to find a new home for the kiln. With the efforts of Arzu Karamani, the kiln has found a truly valued place. It has taken its place alongside the kilns of Füreya Koral and Sadi Diren in the Academy from which Adalan graduated in 1959 – the Ceramics Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.

The archive of Ilgi Adalan, a living memory of contemporary Turkish ceramics, is also accessible via www.ilgiadalan.com. The archive contains over 400 items, including photographs from different periods of the artist's work between 1953 and 2015, visuals, drawings and sketches of his works, ceramic panels, objects from his ceramics workshop, as well as diplomas, awards, event programs, exhibition invitations, news clippings published in various newspapers and magazines, and interviews with the artist. It makes visible both the artist's production and the memory of an era.
