The tile designs in the exhibition titled “Do not be afraid... Independence is the Heart of Courage” organized for the 100th anniversary of the acceptance of the Turkish National Anthem reflected the struggle for the War of Independence and the excitement of independence.
The exhibition titled “Do not be afraid… Independence is the Heart of Courage” was held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the acceptance of our National Anthem written by Mehmet Akif Ersoy at the Istanbul University Rectorate Building. 60 works of miniature, calligraphy, installation, video art and posters were exhibited in the exhibition organized in cooperation with Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Istanbul University, Istanbul Medeniyet University, Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism and Üsküdar Municipality.
One of the most remarkable works in the exhibition was the work produced with the layered tile technique with 100 stars on it. From Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Dr. Lecturer Member Latife Aktan Özel emphasized that the best thing about it is that it is a common product and said, “It is a work created by all our friends as a heart and feeling those days. There are 100 stars on it for the 100th year. The reason why these stars are in different sizes and in different colors is the coexistence of women, men, children, soldiers and devoted people during the War of Independence. We also thought of the foams formed around the product as tears. In the sky, we tried to express that each of them still enlightens us before it goes out for us and that we exist as a result of that day.”
