Erdem Cenesiz: “Despite the pandemic we exceeded the export of the previous year”

The Chairman of Turkish Ceramics Federation Erdem Cenesiz said “As it showed its’ effects on all areas, the pandemic started in 2020 has also affected Turkey’s foreign trade and the export contribution index results of Turkey. Having more supportive measures in domestic market upon the increase in foreign market demands, ensured our industry to reach the previous year’s numbers as of by the second half of the year. The fall lived through in April and May, was recovered by the increase in export in the second half of the year. Ceramics industry closed 2020 with an increase of 6,6, so with an export of 1.3 billion dollars. We achieved our export targets despite the pandemic and made more export than 2019.

“The basis of growth will be export in 2021”

Indicating that they took their real power from export, Cenesiz spoke as follows: “There’s a significant tendency to Turkey within supply chain. We are also growing fast in American and Canada markets. With the effects of the pandemic, the tendency of these countries to supply the products from Turkey has increased further due to the changes in rates in Far East which they are supplying from. In 2020, we’ve become to export 43 percent more ceramic coating to USA compared to the previous year. And we’re expecting a minimum of 5 percent growth in 2021. Turkish ceramics industry is an important player in the world. We’re one of the leading industries of export. Our goal is to get stronger in countries we export to, with the American market coming at first and become the global leader by exploring new markets.”
