The event titled “Sound of Clay”, organized last December as part of the Hungarian-Turkish Year of Culture, both showcased the interdisciplinary aspect of ceramics’ acoustic potential that establishes a relationship with music and reinforced the artistic dialogue between Hungarian and Turkish ceramic artists, which dates back many years.
One of the events organized for the Hungarian-Turkish Culture Year of 2024 was the ceramic workshop titled “Sound of Clay”. The workshop was organized between December 2-6, 2024, within the scope of the scientific research and social responsibility project titled “Ceramics: A Material That Can Produce Sound” carried out by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senem Aker Ensari, faculty member of the Ceramics Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University.
The exhibition of ceramic musical instruments produced by Szilvia Haber, Anita Elek, Senem Aker Ensari, Melahat Altundag, Kinga Varbiro, Perihan San Aslan, Timea Nemes, Hilal Meydan, Agota Mora, Tunahan Acikgoz, Mustafa Ural, Safak Cetin Ozkan, Omer Acar, who participated in the workshop, was opened on December 9 at the Art Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University. A concert performed with ceramic musical instruments by the music group conducted by Prof. Dr. Nesrin Kalyoncu was held at the opening of the exhibition. While the interdisciplinary aspect of the acoustic potential of ceramics that establishes a relationship with music was exhibited with the “Sound of Clay” event, the artistic dialogue between Hungarian and Turkish ceramic artists, which has a long history, was also reinforced.
