CCSIB ANNOUNCES 2024 EXPORT CHAMPIONS

The Cement, Glass, Ceramics and Soil Products Exporters' Association (CCSIB) announced the champion companies that exported a total of approximately $4.5 billion in 2024. Speaking at the ceremony, CCSIB President Erdem Cenesiz said that they expect 2025 to be a year of return.

Cement, Glass, Ceramics and Soil Products Exporters' Association (CCSIB), which includes export companies in the ceramics, cement and glass sectors and is the sole and coordinating exporter association with over 2 thousand members, announced the export champions of 2024. Deputy Minister of Trade Volkan Agar, TIM President Mustafa Gultepe, Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) President Seyit Ardic, CCSIB President Erdem Cenesiz, CCSIB Vice Presidents Tansu Kumru and Abdulhamit Akcay and union member companies attended the 7th Export Champions Award Ceremony held at the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Foreign Trade Complex.

“We have reached the highest export value”

TIM Chairman Mustafa Gultepe, who emphasized that Turkiye will export 262 billion dollars in 2024, said, “We have reached the highest 12-month export value in our history. However, when we think about our goal, we need to do more with all our sectors, including cement, glass and ceramics. We are conducting an intensive trade and purchasing delegation program so that our exporters can increase their share in existing markets and meet with buyers in new markets.”

After exporting $5.6 billion in 2022, CCSIB member companies closed 2023 with $4.9 billion and 2024 with approximately $4.5 billion in exports. CCSIB President Erdem Cenesiz stated that the loss experienced in the last two years was due to global conditions and the domestic economic conjuncture. Reminding that China followed an aggressive pricing policy in almost all sectors in 2023 and lowered prices, Cenesiz said, “Although they saw that this was not sustainable and started to increase prices again, we lost share in the main markets to the countries we competed with during this process. Wars, global economic conditions, and geopolitical uncertainties also caused our exports to decrease slightly. The biggest factors in keeping the loss at a certain level were our brand, design and innovation power and our logistics capabilities. Thanks to the solid commercial relations we have established and our high reputation in the international arena, we managed to limit our export loss and keep it at a tolerable level.”

“Increase in ceramic exports will be a signal flare”

Cenesiz, who also provided information about the ceramic sector in his speech, said the following; “Last year, despite the increase in ceramic coating materials, we experienced a 2 percent decrease in the sector as a whole compared to the previous year due to losses in our exports of sanitary ware and porcelain tableware and kitchenware. This year, we anticipate a 6-8 percent increase in ceramic coating material exports and a 4-5 percent increase in ceramic sanitary ware. The increase in exports in ceramic coating materials in particular will be a signal flare for our total export increase. On the other hand, areas such as bathroom supplies and porcelain, also known as ceramic sanitary ware, are labor-intensive. These sectors are spread all over our country from Zonguldak to Diyarbakir, apart from the provinces known only for ceramic production. Therefore, we have a demand that they be considered as labor-intensive sectors. These sectors provide employment in every corner of Anatolia with domestic resources and earn foreign exchange at a record rate of 82 percent. In other words, 82 dollars of every 100 dollars they export stays in our country.”

“Ministry support against unfair competition is important”

CCSIB Vice President Tansu Kumru, who stated that the Turkish glass sector, which has a history of 90 years, has made Turkiye the world’s glass production base with its production and processing capacity of over 4 million tons, said: “Our sector, which has increased its exports by over 50 percent in the last 5 years, did not stop there and focused on R&D, innovation, environmentally friendly production processes and products. Thanks to these investments, we increased the production of innovative products such as energy-saving coated glass and energy glass for solar panels; we also made a difference with lightweight bottles and specially designed glass household goods products. Diversifying our export markets was also among our priorities. In order not to be affected by the stagnation in the European market, we also focused on the US, African and Middle Eastern markets. As a sector, we have the capacity, experience, product diversity and service level to evaluate all opportunities in export markets. In this process, the continued support of our Ministry of Trade in the fight against imports from countries such as China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Egypt and Iran, which come at prices far below our production costs and create unfair competition, is very valuable to us.”

CCSIB Vice President Abdulhamit Akcay also emphasized that the Turkish cement sector continues to provide uninterrupted service in export markets despite the difficulties and high cost disadvantages experienced in 2024. “Last year, we demonstrated once again that the Turkish cement sector is a reliable and strong partner with the 19 million tons of exports worth 1.1 billion dollars we made to 100 countries. We realized 10 percent of the world's total cement and clinker exports and 15 percent of the exports made by sea. We provide 30 percent of the cement imports of the USA, 7 percent of the total cement consumption and 27 percent of the total exports made from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East on our own,” he said.

At the 7th Champions of Export Award Ceremony, following the opening speeches, a total of 76 awards were presented to 44 companies operating in 12 sub-sectors in the categories of “Companies with the Most Exports”, “Company with the Highest Export Unit Price”, “Company with the Most Proportional Increase in Exports” and “Company with the Most Increase in Exports” in 2024.
