“CATEGORY-LESS” STORIES OF WOMEN

In the exhibition titled “Category-less” by academician and artist Pinar Caliskan Gunes, works that approach women with their multifaceted and unique identity dimensions without subjecting them to a classification were introduced to the audience.

From Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Ceramics and Glass Department, academician Pinar Caliskan Gunes’s exhibition titled “Category-less” met with the audience at the D.E.U. Rectorate, DESEM July 15 Temmuz Sehitler Hall Foyer between December 11-16, 2024. The exhibition consisted of Gunes’s works in which she embodied the emotions of ‘Women’ with her unique interpretations.

Assoc. Prof. Yildiz Ersagdic says the following about Gunes’s exhibition theme: “While this exhibition includes a general category within a thematic integrity regarding ‘Woman’, it also indicates a ‘Category-less’, unclassifiable, special interest and situation in terms of ‘Woman’s’ multi-faceted, unique identity dimensions and unique life/art practices. With each act, woman includes a wide and uncategorized story meticulously woven with her protective, grasping, durable, nature-identical structure… Therefore, it is uncategorized in this sense as well. Within the exhibition, each creative act set out with separate identity acts specific to women; with themes such as ‘Sensitivity’, ‘Inner Journey’, ‘Unique Integrity’, preserves its characteristic with a subtle artistic taste within itself. And although the object or the content of thought are different in each of them, in this visual feast that accompanies each other with a common denominator of being original, there is on the one hand a uniqueness and a ‘CATEGORY-LESS’, especially regarding women.”
