Ceramicists who have been working at the Karamani Ceramics Studio, some for a few months and some for more than 10 years, opened a group exhibition at the Schneidertempel Art Center, dedicated to the memory of Ayfer Karamani, who we lost last year.
The third major group exhibition of the Karamani Ceramics Studio, consisting of works by 26 participants, opened at the Schneidertempel Art Center on May 29. This exhibition of the workshop was dedicated to the memory of their master, ceramicist Ayfer Karamani, who passed away on February 25, 2024.
The exhibition, which includes ceramics by Armik Pinarbasi, Asli Oney, Aysegul Cihan, Banu Gurel, Elcin Elgin, Elif Ertemel, Emine Altinsik, Emre Durdu, Esma Guler, Evren Altinel, Fersan Yasar, Figen Haydar, Gulgun Oztas, Isil Yaman, Maryam Topcu, Mehves Demir, Neslihan Ilhan, Nihan Altunbas, Nihan Basarir, Renan Koen, Sabina Alce, Seda Kocaslan, Sibel Safiye Avci, Sunduz Atay, Tulay Taner and Yael Silton, was designed by Ersu Pekin. Some of the participants have been making ceramics at the Karamani Ceramics Studio for a few months, some for more than 10 years, and they continue their work with Arzu Karamani Pekin, Ayfer Karamani's daughter and apprentice.
Ayfer Karamani, who has worked actively for over 60 years, has also trained students in her studio for over 40 years. The environment she created with her own working style, understanding of art, approach to ceramics and the way she conveyed this, created a unique studio breath. Her daughter Arzu Karamani Pekin has been trying to continue the effect of this master breath by combining it with her own style since 2015.
The studio group first organized a one-day exhibition in 2015 at Passage Café in Beyoglu, and participated in the Maltepe University March 8 International Women's Day Exhibition in 2017. It held its first major group exhibition at D’art Gallery Istanbul between April 12, 2018 and May 6, 2018. Following the second group exhibition it opened at Schneidertempel Art Center in 2023, this exhibition is the third major exhibition of the Karamani Ceramics Studio group.
The works are currently being carried out in the last studio of the Karamani family, opened by Ayfer and Sabit Karamani in 1979 on Tunel Postacilar Street.
The exhibition can be viewed until August 22, 2025.
