YILDIZ ŞİMA'S MEMORY LIVES ON WITH THE GOLDEN JUG

• The 18th Golden Jug Ceramic Competition, which Halim and Yıldız Şima have been organizing with great dedication for many years, was held. The competition, which was started to support ceramic art and artists, continues at Yıldız Şima's wish and her memory is kept alive.

The 18th Golden Jug Ceramic Competition, organized by the Izmir Rotary Club since 1991, was held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center with a large audience. The award ceremony and exhibition opening took place on March 9th, and the exhibition ended on March 31st, 2026.

The Golden Jug Ceramic Competition, which Halim and Yıldız Şima have been organizing with great dedication for many years, was initiated to support ceramic art and artists, and over time has become one of Türkiye's largest and longest-running competitions in terms of participation.

This year, the competition, chaired by İzmir Efes Rotary Club member and ceramic artist Verda Sipahi, had Mehmet Tüzüm Kızılcan as its guest of honor. The jury consisted of Adnan Sözeri, Yeşim Zümrüt, Veysel Özel, Şirin Koçak, Pınar Güzelgün Hangün, Mustafa Tunçalp, Kamil Fırat, İsmet Yüksel, Hüseyin Özçelik, Halil Yoleri, and Ayşe Kurşuncu.

This year, 175 works were submitted to the 18th Golden Test Ceramic Competition, and after the preliminary selection, 77 works were deemed worthy of exhibition. Each of the exhibited works was created by filtering the artist's feelings and thoughts and was produced using different ceramic techniques.

As Mrs. Yıldız Şima has expressed on every occasion her wish for the competition to continue for many years to come, and as she stated in her speech at the 16th Golden Testi Ceramic Competition, her last competition: ‘ARTE LONGE VITA BREVİS’; ‘Life is short, art is long.’”
